Cylinder 2

This project was my second attempt on the wheel. This time when I went on the wheel everything seemed easier and more familiar. When I started my project I had to first center the clay, and gladly it was much easier and faster than last time. Once it was centered, I expanded the cylinder both vertically and horizontally. Then I removed it from the wheel and fired it once. Then once it came out of the first furring I glazed it with high fire glaze that was a purple color and also very thick. I didn't really like this color, for it was very thick and made it look weird. However this cylinder was taller, meeting the original criteria.

Cylinder 1

This was the first project we were assigned to do on the wheel. The first step to making a cylinder was to place the clay on the wheel, spin the wheel fast and center the clay on the wheel. Afterwards I made a hole in the middle and began widening it to the correct size. Finally I raised the short cylinder. Sadly the wheel turned out to be much harder than I thought it would be. Therefore my first attempt at the cylinder was not tall enough, but still a significant effort. After I glazed it It looked a lot better too

Coil pot

The coil pot was one of my least favorite projects, mainly because it took so long and it was annoying. I started by cutting out a circle as the base. Then I started rolling out various clay things called Coils. I stacked them between each other and slipped and scored in between in layer. As I continuously stacked them, I started altering the length of the coils, creating a curve. When I finished stacking them the overall height was like 10 inches. I fired it once and then high fire glazed

Box

This project was probably the project that took the longest time, for it had various steps. I started by rolling out a big slab of clay, just like the mug. Then I measured it and cut out four squares. Then I let them dry until they were leather hard and then we slipped and scored all the sides together. Creating a box withe a bottom and a lid. Then after we connected it, I added various decorations on all sides to make it pretty. When I finished that I fired it once, then glazed it with high fire glazes and fired it again. I think the box was one of my best projects for the paint and overall shape was very neat. However the lid sunk into the box when it was fired, causing it to have a slanted and curved shape

Mug

The mug was a very simple project and did not take very long. We started the making of the mug by taking a piece of clay and rolling it out until it was a flat clay slab. Then we found some type of plastic container that would serve as the shape and wrapped it in newspaper. Then we placed the Slab on the paper wrapped plastic and allowed it to harden. Afterwards we added the handle and fired it twice. I think the overall result of my mug was very good and I am happy with it, but I wish I would have made the painting neater

Pinch Pot

The Pinch Pot was our second project. it was really simple to make and only took a couple of steps. We had to knead the clay first and the shape in to a circle. Afterwards we started to pinch the circle forming it into a small bowl shape. Then once the clay became leather hard we placed a design on it and attached feet. I didn't really like how my project looked because i though it looked really sloppy and the design was boring. Anyways, after it was fired once, i applied a high fire glaze to it. i decided to mix colors, hoping it would be somewhat light blue and light purple. However it did not look anything like i expected, but i guess it looked okay in the end

Wire Sculpture

The wire sculpture was the very first project we made. The materials we used for this project included wires that we bent into shapes along with paper mache to cover the sculpture. i did not really like this project at first, for the wire was hard to bend and it was a little boring. Also, i could not decide what i wanted to make, so i kept changing my project which caused me to take much longer. However once i finish the wire part i began the paper mache. This part of the sculpture was easy, since i was already familiar with this. Finally we painted them and took them home. Overall my final project was my ostrich and i think it turned out pretty good.
